Current Projects: Delivery and Preservation
It used to be easy, but things changed. Today, the overwhelming majority of recorded Masters are “born digital” and require an entirely new approach to their delivery, availability, and security. Record labels and other content owners now find themselves unable to determine whether or not the project media they accept as Master deliverables are complete and playable. Valuable recordings are at risk as they accumulate on hard drives with no back-ups, no documentation, and no way to positively identify the assets. Rapid software and hardware obsolescence make it extremely unlikely that even completely delivered Masters will be playable in the future. Details
Archival Catalog Migration
Generations of successful artists are now faced with a challenge – how will their Masters survive in the 21st century and beyond? Thousands of recordings are at risk, on deteriorating media and obsolete formats. Neither analog nor digital playback machines are still manufactured, and their rapid disappearance has shortened the window of opportunity. The recordings must be migrated to digital preservation file-sets in order to survive. BMS/Chace has the expertise and equipment to recover and migrate catalog Masters from any format, as well as the metadata tools and data management techniques to ensure the sustainability of the catalog.
