BMS/Chace provides state of the art archival migration, metadata capture, and data management tools and services, custom tailored to the specific needs of each individual collection. Our use of Unique Identifiers, checksums, controlled vocabularies and metadata linkage provides a robust digital environment enabling a wide range of storage and access scenarios.

bullet State of the art transfer services create the highest quality digital preservation files from most sources

BMS/Chace can transfer from over 86 different playback sources, many of them obsolete. We create the highest quality digital preservation files at all sample rates up to 192 kHz, as well as Direct Stream Digital (DSD). All projects, whether a routine transfer or a complex restoration, benefit from the resources, careful attention and skilled personnel available at BMS/Chace.

All tapes or disks are examined for playback compatibility and problematic materials are isolated for additional restoration work prior to migration. Each transfer uses the highest-quality converters appropriate for the project, and machines are aligned and checked daily to be at factory specification prior to transfer.

bullet Customized tools and open-source database solutions ensure the effective collection and deployment of documentation, cataloging, and metadata, conforming to all current and emerging standards

BMS/Chace uses a variety of open-source and commercially available software to enhance the ability to capture a rich set of documentation and cataloging information, enabling the migration project to conform to a wide variety of existing and emerging metadata standards. Institutions with existing archival databases can expect a seamless electronic transfer of metadata, and collections that do not have an existing database in place can take advantage of our experience in creating custom database environments.
